The Triceratops

Triceratops dinosaur


You see the Triceratops everywhere! In every dinosaur movie, toys, teddy bears, and pictures. Children are so interested by this Canadian found dinosaur. The Triceratops lived during the late Cretaceous Period. These somewhat resembled a rhinoceros. It has three horns and a solid shield like armor around the neck. They were the last dinosaurs dated before the extinction of dinosaurs making them the last species of these enormous lizards. Most of the fossils were found together in herds showing they stuck together. Also they had big cheek pouches to grab and eat mouthfuls of food.

Did you know :

The name Triceratops actually means "Three horned face." It was named by Othniel Charles Marsh on the third try. He first named it Bison alticornis, then Ceratops, to finally later called it Triceratops.
